The sailboats used in this program are custom-modified 15-foot keel Mercurys, and 23-foot Sonars. These boats allow a participant to either learn how to sail or simply enjoy a ride on the Charles. The boats have been adapted with contoured and supportive seating as well as higher booms so people do not have to move from side-to-side when the boat turns. The modified Mercury has also been fitted with special rigging so that all control lines lead to a central point. In additon the boats used in this program are extremely stable and safe because of added ballast. For aditional safety there will always be a certified staff member on the boat. We also have a Hoyer lift mounted to our dock to assist in lifting someone in and out of the boats.
