High School Sailing
Our high school program is run in partnership with the
Massachusetts Bay League, an independent organization with more than 25 member schools.
During the spring and fall, Community Boating, Inc. opens its docks to over a dozen sailing teams and
clubs in the Greater Boston area. These teams practice and race on weekday afternoons and Saturday
mornings using our fleet of Cape Cod Mercurys and 420s. In addition, regattas involving teams from
secondary schools throughout New England are held at CBI on a regular basis.
The focus of the spring season is competitive racing while the fall season is devoted to learning the basics
and building skills. All schools wishing to sail at CBI must be members in good standing
of the Massachusetts Bay League. In the spring racing season, each team must also have a coach with a
US SAILING Level 1 Instructor certification. While we strive to keep high school sailing affordable,
there are seasonal fees
to join both Community Boating, Inc. and the Massachusetts Bay League.
Prior to sailing, each team should submit, to CBI, a roster on school letterhead certifying that each
partipant can swim 75 yards and has the permission of a parent or guardian, a signed contract between
the school and CBI, a copy of the school's insurance certificate, a membership application for each student,
and payment of or purchase order for the applicable dues and fees.
More information about the Massachusetts Bay League can be found on their
web site.
