Volunteer

Since Community Boating's founding, volunteers have comprised the strong backbone that keeps CBI afloat. Literally! Without volunteer instructors and people willing to take newcomers out on training sails, there wouldn't be much of a community in Community  Boating.

If you are interested in becoming a member of the Volunteer Faculty? Interested in learning more about how to teach sailing and/ or how to give informal, on-the-water instruction?  Please contact to Andrew, Volunteer Coordinator.

Volunteer instructors are vitally important to CBI, but so are other skills! There are all kinds of opportunities to contribute at CBI, small to large, from community outreach and back-office work to instruction, and everything in between.  We're looking for volunteers in  these areas, but any skill or time you can offer will be put to good use.

  • instructors (to teach rigging, orientation,
  • on-the-water-sailing/windsurfing, on-land classes)
  • community outreach
  • man a CBI booth at an event
  • computers / technology
  • heavy lifting / manual work / repairs
  • organizing social events
  • grant writing
  • fundraising / marketing
  • office/organization

Send us an email with "volunteer" in the Subject line. We'll send you an email when we can use your help. Or drop by the front desk anytime to ask how you can help, or call 617-523-1038.

Current Volunteer Opportunities

  1. Instructor

Give informal instruction or take one of our informal instructor seminars to become a volunteer instructor.

  2. Workparties

Come to our workparties and help to improve the fleets and facilities. Every Saturday all summer long. Spring and Fall are the BIG ones - see the calendar for the schedule.

  3. Fundraiser Helpers

If you have event planning experience, like to put on a party, or simply want to contribute to one of *the* CBI social events of the year, we're recruiting volunteers for a variety of tasks for Community
    Boating's annual fundraiser.

Thanks for helping out! Your time is genuinely appreciated.

Junior Program Instructors-in-Training

The Instructor-in-Training (IIT) volunteer program gives Juniors and opportunity to give back to CBI while gaining responsibility and recognition in the Junior Program community. IITs assist with classes, shadow instructors, help boats cast off, dock, rig and unrig, and take less experienced members out sailing for extra practice.

For more information, see the Junior Program IIT page.
