Community Boating serves the metropolitan Boston Community by enhancing the
overall quality of city life. The scope of our organization encompasses a diverse
population. In 2001 the program had 5,500 adult Senior members and 1,590 Junior
members from over 30 towns and communities in the metropolitan Boston area.
Many of our members are residents of Boston and its surrounding neighborhoods.
On the larger scale though, thousands of people worldwide have learned how to sail
at CBI. Our Junior members span all economic levels and ethnic groups.
Mission
The mission of Community Boating, Inc., is the advancement of sailing for
all by minimizing economic and physical obstacles to sailing. In addition, CBI
enhances the greater Boston community by using sailing as a vehicle to empower
its members to develop independence and self-confidence, improve communication,
foster teamwork, and acquire a deeper understanding of community spirit and the
power of volunteerism.
Organization & Structure
Community Boating is a private not-for-profit 501(c)3 corporation. We receive
no federal or state funding. The organization is overseen by a Board of Directors,
elected by our Corporation, a group of 232 Community Boating volunteers who are
concerned with the future of the organization and with the preservation and utilization
of Boston's natural resources. The Board's primary functions are to approve an annual
budget, set policies, advise management, serve as community liaison and to spearhead
specific committees and fundraising efforts. Meetings are held monthly and are open
to all CBI members who wish to attend. Meeting dates will be announced on the news
and events page of this site once the shedule is set. Until then please inquire
at the front office for meeting dates.
