Harbor Trip Crew Class

(2 hours)
If you are going on a Harbor Trip and have a Solo or higher rating, we urge you to attend Crew class and earn your Crew rating. This class is mostly on the water and covers Harbor Trip boat gear, lowering and raising masts, reefing sails, handling an anchor, towing, and emergency procedures. Crew training will make the Harbor Trip more interesting for you; it's also a prerequisite for the Skipper rating. We offer the class when there is a Harbor Trip the following weekend. From May to late August most classes are on Wednesday evenings (except Thursday June 21 and July 5). From then on, because of early sunset, the class shifts to Sunday mornings. Limited to 12 students; minimum 2. Advance signup required.

Prerequiste: Solo rating.

Harbor Trip Skipper Class

(2.5 hours)
This class gives you the additional skills to be a confident skipper of a CBI Harbor Trip boat. Advance signup required. Unlimited class size, no minimum. You must have prerequisites before attending class! This class is shore school and covers role of the skipper, basic chart reading and navigation, tides and currents, collision avoidance, VHF radio operation, and compass use. After attending the class, you sail one more trip as crew before becoming eligible for your Skipper rating. Tip: Being a HT Skipper increases your chances of going on over-subscribed Harbor Trips, plus you sail for $5.00 on day trips and receive a reduced rate on camping trips when you sign up as a HT Skipper! Taught on weekends when there is no harbor trip.

Prerequisites: Crew rating, RHODES BASIC RATING, and recent participation in at least one Harbor Trip.
