Join Community Boating for the 2015 Season!
It’s always a great sign of spring when the sailboats can start zipping along the Charles River basin. We’ll be open 1PM to sunset on weekdays and 9AM to sunset on weekends and holidays. Our hours of operations chang to 3PM to sunset on weekdays starting Monday, June 15. Join us for our daily free orientations for more information about all that we offer.
Adult Program News and Updates
Attention Members: Due to the 4th of July restrictions on the Esplanade and for boating access, all programs will be closed Friday, July 3rd and Saturday, July 4th. The Adult Program opens on Sunday, July 5th at 10AM.
We apologize for the inconvenience, but for the next nine weeks there will be heavy construction in the Main Bay and the Function Room to replace the handicap lift. Although Community Boating lobbied the DCR to repair this system and make our building more accessible, the construction schedule was completely out of our control, and we were only just notified last week.
Creating access for all our users to all parts of the boathouse is vitally important to us; therefore, we ask for everyone’s patience, understanding, and tolerance as this project is underway. Temporary outdoor classrooms have been created under tents on the dock. Please inquire at the Dockhouse for classroom information.
Stand-up Paddleboard Yoga! It’s happening! We are piloting a new class to be offered this summer for members only to paddle out to the Charles River for a balanced based Yoga class. Beginner poses with challenge variations offered. Bring sun screen, water, a change of clothes, and a fun attitude! Offered Saturdays at 10AM. SUP rating not required, but SUP experience is required. Yoga experience not required. Limited spots available; $35 per person; signup required at the Front Office; subject to minimum sign-up.
If you’re not ready yet to try yoga on the water, we will be bringing back FREE Sunrise Yoga on the Dock offered weekly throughout the summer starting again on Thursday, June 4th at 6:30AM. We do have a few mats available for use, but please bring your own mat if you can. Start off your morning feeling refreshed and energized.
Over the past four years, CBI’s Learn-to-Race class has introduced CBI sailors to the world of sailboat racing. In 2015, CBI is introducing a few tweaks to our Friday Night Informal Racing to better integrate the newly minted racers.
Upon completion of the racing course, graduates will receive the usual applause and accolades and their very own green streamer. They will be able to secure the streamer at the head of the mainsail to identify them as novice racers–CBI’s very own green fleet. This will help us provide targeted coaching and encouragement on the race course to advance their skills.
The next series of Learn-to-Race 3-class series started again on June 9th, offered weekly on Tuesdays from 6:30PM to 8PM. Learn the basics of racing, racing rules and racing strategies so you can start joining our Friday Night Informal Racing or any of our other racing opportunities listed here.
In addition, each Tuesday night, we will be offering a new race practice session for our members who are interested in learning new racing skills, improving boat handling, or just dusting off the cobwebs. Space is limited so sign up in advance through the Front Office.
For more information about racing at CBI, which occurs almost every day of the week, please visit our Racing webpage at community-boating.org/racing.
