Kayaking


Kayaking is a great way to explore river at your own pace. Classes cover assembly and basic stroke techniques. Learn a sport that opens a new world to you both at CBI and beyond:


Kayak Class

(1 hour; limited to 10 students)

This introductory class covers a variety of topics needed to kayak on the Charles. You will learn basic techniques, safety, and boat handling. You can test for the Kayak rating at the end of this class. The Kayak test will include CBI's rules and procedures and a basic  on-the-water test. If you have experience in kayaking and would like to test out, please see the High-Performance dock or the dock house for more information.

Adult Program Kayak Rules

  • Life jackets must be worn at all times.
  • Guests are limited to one at a time in a double kayak with you. Non-members cannot take their own kayaks unless they rent them at the front office.
  • Guests under the age of 18 require proof of being able to swim 75 yards on pool letterhead.
  • Stay between the Longfellow & Mass Ave bridges.
    • You may go under the small bridges through the esplanade canal, however we cannot see you.
  • If you need assistance, ask the nearest sailboat to lower its sail half way.
  • Do not land at public docks or on the shore unless it is an emergency.
  • Stay with the kayak at all times.
  • If the American flag comes down, return to CBI immediately.
