Windsurfing


Our windsurfing program offers instruction for beginning and intermediate windsurfers alike. Classes are taught by qualified instructors who guide you through the basics and get you windsurfing in no time! The program is open from April to October and classes are taught  from June to August.

STEP 1 - Get Your Solo Rating

If you are new to windsurfing or CBI, you will need to get your Solo rating in sailing first, or at least pass the Oral test part of the Solo Rating. The beginner courses are intense and you will need to know basic sailing principles and CBI rules.

STEP 2 - Get your Basic Rating

These classes have limited space. You may register 1 week in advance in the front office.
  • Windsurfing Intro Class

    Length: 2 1/4 hours. This class will provide students with an introduction to windsurfing. It includes an introduction to CBI windsurfing procedures, parts of a windsurfer, and basic windsurfing techniques.

  • Windsurfing Clinic

    Length: 2 1/4 hours. This class will provide build upon the skills learned in Windsurfing Intro. It includes review of Windsurfing Intro Skills, and introduces students to Tacking and Gybing while in the sailing position. This class will go on the water, and students will get wet. Students may take this class multiple times, until they are prepared for the Windsurf Basic Test.

STEP 3 - Keep Windsurfing

After you have received your Basic rating, you can take our boards on Green Flag days and the Lighter Red Flag days, take the Intermedaiate Windsurfing Class, and participate in Thursday night racing.

  • Intermediate Windsurfing Class

Length: 2 hours. This class will introduce students to intermediate and advanced windsurfing theory techniques. It includes rigging and tuning of a windsurf sail. Also includes instruction on use of harnesses and foot straps, using a simulator. This class may include an on the water portion, depending upon conditions.

  • Thursday Night Windsurfing Racing

June through August, CBI will be running informal fleet racing on Thursday nights for windsurfers. Racing starts at 5:30PM, and racers must return to the dock by sunset. CBI's new fleet of 6 Bic T-293s should provide fun racing for all, and competitive racing for those who are looking for it. If the whole fleet of 293s is out, other racers will be sent out in hi-flys and/or ferried out to the race committee boat to rotate in.
