Classes and Programs
|
Classes teach Juniors to sail, kayak and windsurf and progress through a range of abilities. All classes are included with membership. Classes are not cancelled for rain or foul weather; please dress accordingly. In the event of lightning or unsafe winds, the class will occur inside. Most classes have a prerequisite rating. Ratings determine the boats the sailor may use and the wind conditions in which they may sail. Ratings may be awarded upon completion of a class if the Junior demonstrates the appropriate skills. It is common for students to take a class more than once to acquire a rating, especially as the ratings become more advanced. Classes are broken down into three categories: Getting started – Mercury and Kayak, High Performance – Laser, 420 and Windsurf, and Keelboat – Rhodes 19 and Sonar. The Class and Rating flowchart outlines the progression of classes and further class descriptions and information is listed in the section corresponding to each category. Community Boating also has a Race Team and an Instructor-In-Training program for our more advanced members. |
