Welcome to Community Boating’s Virtual Learning Center.  Here you will find our new eLearning opportunities for Spring 2020. We are working during this extended off-season to add new material.

We know these are abstract concepts, and a little face-to-face time can be helpful. After completing a virtual learning unit, you may request a zoom session to ask questions.


The orientation class is the gateway to everything that CBI has to offer, whether you’re a seasoned sailor or brand new to boats.
Prerequisite: no experience necessary
Suggested for: All new members


This class will teach you your port from stern, sheet from halyard, and just about everything else you need to know about our boats. We’ll also show you how to set a boat up and how to break it down so that you can be well on your way to start sailing on the Charles.
Prerequisite: Orientation suggested
Suggested for: Mercury Green Rating
Our Virtual Rigging is broken into three parts:

Shore School

Shore School explains all the theory you’ll need to start sailing. We will guide you through the basics of reading wind, trimming sails, steering a boat, and more. We’ll cover everything you need to know to get back to the dock safely, and When you have completed this class, you’ll be prepared to take the Mercury green test!
