We are a community of CBI sailors formed to promote racing at all levels. Our goals are to improve racing skills and enjoyment of the sport, and to engender the Corinthian spirit on which the sport was founded.
We run three seasonal Mercury series, as well as other trophy regattas, single-handed events, early-season match racing in keelboats, and dinghy championships for 420’s and Lasers, all in boats provided by CBI. We also host a regatta in mid-September open to racers from outside CBI.
Who: Skippers with knowledge of the Racing Rules of Sailing and of the Tiller Club Sailing Instructions. Novice and experienced crews are welcome. Two sailors per boat (except keelboats and Lasers). Come with a team, or connect with a crew or skipper, either online or before racing.
When: Gather about 09:30 to rig and register before the skippers meeting at 10:15 on Sunday mornings. No race starts after 13:30 on series days, or 14:30 for trophy events. See schedule for more details.
Where: CBI main dock, rain or shine.
Cost: Nominal $5 fee per boat to cover trophies and administrative expenses.
The first and best way to get involved is to come down on race day and see what we’re are all about! We can often connect you with an experienced skipper and get you on the water for day one. We recommend you arrive around 09:30 and let us know you’re looking to race; we’re not hard to find as we’re often the only ones there that early.
For those new to racing or in need of a refresher on rules or strategies, check out the three-part Learn To Race class series taught through CBI. This class is not required to crew, however it is a great introduction to racing, and a way learn about basic racing rules and strategies.
CBI members can receive their Tiller Club rating by completing a test on the racing rules of sailing. Regular, experienced participants are expected to run or assist with Race Committee once a season, as we operate through a volunteer-run format.
