Floating Classrooms

CBI is looking to pilot an educational program for elementary schools, community centers, and afterschool programs in the spring and/or fall. Students and teachers can utilize our access to the Charles River, unique urban location, knowledgeable staff, and fleet of sailboats to aid studies in STEM topics such as simple machines, wind power, ecology, Newton’s laws, aquatic ecology, geometry, buoyancy, teamwork, and much more. Please contact [email protected] with interest or questions.

A sample program might be sixteen 4th graders coming Tuesday afternoons for 6 weeks in April/May.* Lessons would include on-shore interactive STEM experiments, along with short sailing opportunities aboard our stable Sonar sailboats. CBI intends to pursue grants to make this no-cost for participating groups based on need.

*Programs could accommodate up to 21 students (plus chaperones) in the 3rd-6th grade range, and would be scheduled for 4-8 afternoons either during vacation week or across several spring or fall weeks.
