Volunteer

Welcome Volunteers!

Since Community Boating’s founding, volunteers have comprised the strong backbone that keeps CBI afloat. Literally! Without your dedication, time, and energy, we could not hope to deliver on our mission of Sailing for All! We hope the experience is equally enriching and rewarding for you.

Join volunteers from our three programs, alumnae, and the Cambridge, Beacon Hill, Back Bay, Charles River, and greater sailing communities. Thank you for sharing the sport and the city you love with people from all over the greater Boston Area, and for your passion to make the outdoors, the water, and sailing accessible to everyone who might wish to enjoy it. Volunteer impact is measured in the high quality of  instruction, beauty of the fleet, support given to less fortunate members, and most of all in communities of friends, alums, and members who take pride in being a part of and supporting CBI.

Volunteer Opportunities

No amount of help is too great or too small. Some popular opportunities are listed below, and also check out the Adult, Junior, and Corporation pages for ways to help within those programs.

Groups

We welcome groups of volunteers to help with projects such as cleaning and maintaining the fleet, landscaping, or outreach. Minors allowed only with one-to-one adult supervision. Please contact us using the form below.

Work Parties

We rely on our members and supporters to help haul, maintain, and launch the fleet in the fall, winter, and spring respectively. Generally two opportunities each of November, January, and March. Get details on the Work Party event page.

Fleet and Facility

Skilled volunteers are welcome in assisting our maintenance department with repairing and maintaining boats and equipment; typically weekdays from 0700-1500 hours. Please contact us using the form below.

Adult Program Faculty

Adult Program members with a green rating or above can participate as Volunteer Faculty! With only a couple hours training you’ll be able to teach classes on your own schedule. Get started at our Volunteer Faculty resource page.

Junior Program IIT

Junior Program members with a yellow rating can volunteer as Instructors in Training (IIT) in the Junior Program.

Board & Corporation

The organization is overseen by a Board of Directors, elected by our Corporation, whose members show special interest in the future of the organization and the preservation and utilization of Boston’s natural resources. Find out more on the Corporation Page.

Event & Planning Committees

CBI relies on volunteers to help plan fundraising events, create and execute periodic strategic planning, and as outreach partners at conferences around New England and nationally. If interested, please contact us using the form below.
